Kurt Van Wagner’s roots in photographic art go back to when he was a youngster living in Southern California. He was a very craft and hobby oriented child. Together he and his father would make mosaics made from glass tiles, shells, and rocks which they collected from the local beach. During this same period in his life he also discovered the hobby of stamp collecting. This opened so many doors for his hunger to learn about the world, it’s many different peoples, cultures and its
Kurt later studied photography in high school. After graduation, he spent the next two summers hitchhiking and traveling by bus and train throughout Europe and North Africa on a student’s budget. He captured his experiences with his coveted Yashika camera.
In 1986, he and his wife Jenni spent nearly two years traveling around the world in pursuit of experiences beyond their own local environment. They both learned about the world; it’s people and varied beauty through their travel, sometimes working and through Kurt’s photography.
In 1999, Kurt bought his first computer. The door opened wide again. Here was the whole electronic world at his fingertips. Nevertheless, being a craft and hobby oriented person, he decided to show people through his eyes how he saw and experienced our vast world.
Kurt has emerged as an accomplished self taught photo digital artist. His artwork has gained international and local attention and has won numerous awards. In 2007 he was awarded Best of Show in Photography at the Southern New Mexico State Fair. The past several years Kurt’s art has been published over twenty times in national and international magazines and books. He transforms his personal photographs into collectable works of art. Some of his works are digitally painted while others are made up as collages or scanned textures of rocks and leaves. The results are varied and striking, full of colors and textures that are dazzling bright while still emulating a surreal palette. Kurt’s recent works with the human figure are his interpretation of man’s purpose and meaningful existence in our world. That if we pursue our dreams and the gifts God has bestowed upon us, we will know our purpose, find happiness and peace with our existence. Currently his digital archival creations are displayed in corporate and professional offices, galleries and private collections throughout the United States and Europe. Kurt’s art reflects his extensive world travel with his exotic and local landscapes. He transports the viewer to varied cultures, peoples, vast landscapes and the heart. Kurt’s art tempts and beckons the viewer to go on the journey he has for you. For his art is:
