I studied photography, at the Pacific Nortwest College of Art, and the Evergreen State College, graduating from Evergreen in 1999 with a BA in Photography, Technical Theatre, and Installation Art. I have worked in the photographic industry in Seattle since 1999, and shown work in a number of shows both local and national. I have been making photographic installations for healing arts offices in the Seattle area for about 5 years now.

the result of what you might call my first satori, long before I knew the concept even existed. I was lucky enough to have been given access to a high powered stereo microscope in my grade school classroom. After completing the first assignment of collecting and viewing pollen grains, it blew my little mind, and I was hooked. A new world opened up before my eyes, a world of ecstatic oneness for lack of a better phrase, a world that I have carried with me ever since. Every moment I am haunted by the idea that there are endless realities that exist just beyond what can be readily seen by the naked eye. With a little help from a macro lens or a microscope, these worlds of unimaginable beauty are waiting to be discovered, if only we can take the time to slow down and focus on the detail and patterns unfolding right in front of us. For me that slowing down feels a lot like swimming, especially that moment when my eyelids slip just under the surface, and I undergo that effortless transformation of consciousness, where color and texture are born anew.
Photography has become my favorite form of meditation.
Thank you for taking a moment to check out my work.
Sincerely,
Brooke Fotheringham
